Throughout my career there have been days where I’m confident AF and can pitch ideas to the CEO, handle disputes with co-workers, run meetings, and just get shit done. There have also been days where I pray that no one talks to me and I can just go home and watch The Office in bed with a bottle of Rosé… It may sound crazy, but I swear what I’m wearing that day has a lot to do with that!
I’ve made a list of 7 go-to items that I wear to work all the time and how I like to style them. Having these items in your wardrobe makes going to work a little less terrible, and limits morning meltdowns… so, whether you’re just starting your career and looking to build a work wardrobe, or you’ve been climbing the corporate ladder for some time now, every girl boss needs these 7 staples that make dressing for success simple.
1. Nude Pump
The nude pump has powers unlike any other shoe in your arsenal. It will completely transform any outfit from blah to fabulous in .2 seconds. You need a pair because these shoes go with (almost) everything, and will enhance all outfits instantly. Pair them with any colored pair of pants, rock them with a cute dress, a pencil skirt, a cute jumsuit… there are no limits to what you can do with this shoe! And the good news is, the nude pump is so versatile you can (pretty much) do no wrong!

You must, I repeat,MUST have a good, solid pair of black work pants!! 6. Comfy Flats
There will be days when the thought of putting on a pair of heels makes you want to stab yourself. Wear these on a day when you know you’re boss is going to have you running around and you will thank me later. Pair with a casual dress, your black skinny pants, or a flowy skirt for a cute and comfortable yet very chic look.

7. Black Dress
Another staple in your wardrobe is owning a solid black work dress. Remember, these are a little classier than the Vegas dresses you’ve been collecting… This dress should make you feel confident and just a little bit sexy. Pair it with a blazer or coat, flats or pumps, neutrals or bright colors, or just rock it on it’s own! Having a great dress that you can dress up or down is crucial for adding a level of seniority and sophistication to your closet.

Once you have successfully integrated these items into your work wardrobe, the rest is fun and simple! Adding colorful tops, fun and different styled blazers, leopard flats… the options are really endless. I try to keep my work wardrobe similar to my street wardrobe, mixing and matching whenever I can. When I buy additional items outside of my staples, I try to make sure that they can be styled for work and for a night out or Sunday brunch, so it feels like I’m getting my moneys worth. When you’re shopping for work wear, versatility is key if you don’t want to spend a fortune.
Let me know what you think in the comments! Is there a staple in your work wear wardrobe that I missed? Let me know!
Cheers,
Taylor
